King George V, then the Prince of Wales, laid the foundation stone of King George's Medical College in 1906. The College opened its gates in 1911, though the official opening ceremony was delayed to January 1912.
There is a vibrant research environment in the University. The University has an Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Standard Good Clinical Practice (GCP) compliant Institutional Ethics Committee with competent internal and renowned external members. The Institutional Ethics Committee has been registered with DCGI and on Naitik portal.
KGMU always makes an effort to inculcate the habit of research among young faculty and medical students. To promote and support high-quality research work culture and place young faculty, postgraduate and undergraduate students at a position of advantage, the University started an intra-mural seed grant program in 2003.
